Ebook About "This book puts music, laughter, and heart front and center, and the results are magical."- Mark Hyman, M.D.In Dr. Steven Eisenberg's oncology practice, the enemy is cancer, but it's also denial, anger, and fear--draining emotions that can interfere with the effectiveness of treatment. Every day, Dr. Steven helps patients fight cancer using both time-tested conventional therapies and innovative medical technologies. At the same time, he helps them overcome negative emotions by cultivating acceptance, love, and self-compassion in a deeply personal way, through laughter, empathy, and the music he plays and sings for and with them. How often do you hear someone say, "I'm alive"? Dr. Steven's patients say it to him all the time, in conversations, texts, and e-mails. Some of these patients are celebrating remissions or cures. Some are getting sicker, with reservations about what tomorrow might bring. But they've had a good day. They are all--we are all--truly and urgently alive. Dr. Steven's book invites us to celebrate this truth, even as it tells a compelling story of a doctor's experience on the front lines of care; offers a road map for bringing humanity back into traditional medical practice; and gives patients, families, and caregivers a blueprint for living each day with hope.Book Love Is the Strongest Medicine: Notes from a Cancer Doctor on Connection, Creativity, and Compassion Review :
Who would think that a book about a cancer doctor could be so uplifting? Dr. Eisenberg's writing is funny and moving at the same time. You'll feel your eyes welling up while letting out a giggle more than once while reading. This book recounts several patients' life-changing battles with cancer guided by a smart, compassionate doctor who is also trying to find his true authentic self. Dr. Eisenberg always knew what a big influence music and laughter had in his personal life, but when he marries those passions with his career as an oncologist, the magic happens. This book left me wanting to be a better version of myself for me, my family, my friends, and basically everyone. Love is the Strongest Medicine is a must-read. Once in awhile a book comes along that has a heart. This is that book. I received it late one afternoon and finished it the very next morning. Thats how good it is. An amazing love filled ride that takes the reader on a magical mystical tour. Seventeen pages into the book and a patient named Barb had me in tears. The author takes you on his journey from a near death experience (as a boy) to his medical school training and finally his own cancer diagnosis. We are introduced to his patients who I personally took as angels. They eventually made him a better doctor, musician, father, husband and most importantly a more loving and compassionate person. The book has no speed bumps, it is a smooth and wonderful literary cocktail. It is obvious that if you were ever touched by cancer this will help lift your spirits. On the other hand if you just need a little TLC, it also works wonderfully.
